Widgets on your mobile! Perfect for plucking information from the Internet in an instant so you don’t have to trawl through websites on a tiny screen until your eyes shrivel up to the size of raisins.
Judgement time!
It’s amazing nobody created Widsets earlier. It’s the ideal way to rip information from the internet without faffing around with a web browser or a complicated RSS reader.
Quick to install, it brings widgets to your handset, and there’s one for just about every worthwhile website going - from BBC news to Wikipedia and most in between. There’re tools in widget form too - like a Gmail notifier, and even simple games.
Widgets are loaded onto the phone either with an on-screen menu or with a snazzy web-based account page. The latter makes the process dead simple, and really fast.
Animation is whizzy on high-end handsets, although unfortunately some phones struggle with the graphics cranked up to full. Weirdly, the ultra-powerful N95 has trouble processing everything, leading to a slow and jerky experience. The E61i on the other hand, gobbles up widgets without a complaint. If things are running slowly there’s the option to switch off the fancy graphics, but the app loses much of its sheen without them.
The choice of widgets available is staggering. There’re already thousands of them listed online, but if you can’t find one for the site you’re after just head to the ‘Studio’ section and follow a wizard to create it yourself. It’s painfully simple, and makes this one of the most flexible apps around.
