Tips: Editing phone movies

Don’t leave your video clips sitting on your blower, use the built in editor to turn them into full-blown mini-movies and you’ll not only entertain your mates, you’ll also feel rather pleased with yourself. Oh, it’s piss easy too.

What’s the point?

Make your mobile movies looks like Hollywood productions with effects and filters, without ever switching on the PC.

Is it free?

Gratis, of course.

Sold! How do I do it?

1. Keep it simple

Once you’ve got to grips with the Nseries’ comprehensive video editor it’s tempting to insert jump-cuts, fancy transitions and fast edits wherever possible. Resist the temptation and use effects sparingly – your phone will render the finished movie faster, and your viewers won’t get motion sickness watching it.

2. Add a soundtrack

One of the easiest and most effective ways of making a home movie seem professional is by adding a killer soundtrack. If you’re using your Nokia as a music player you can choose any track from your library – just scroll to the audio track beneath your video and choose ‘Options’, ‘Insert’ and ‘Sound clip’.

3. Make a Muvee

Don’t want to invest your time in full-blown editing? Make a Muvee instead! It’s a short clip made from a template already loaded on your phone. Find your film or photo in the gallery, choose ‘Options’, ‘Edit’ and ‘Create Muvee’. Pick a style and your phone will add music, animation and text, but you can change anything you don’t like by hitting ‘Options’ and ‘Customise’ after you’ve seen what your phone creates.

4. Add titles in a flash

Chucking text at the beginning or tail-end of your clip needn’t mean delving into the video editor. Just hit ‘Options’, ‘Edit’ and ‘Add text’ on your clip in the gallery – you’ll be asked whether to add the text at the beginning or end of your flick, and your Nokia will do the rest.

5. Merge master

Another way to dodge full editing is by merging your movies. Choose a clip and select ‘Options’ followed by ‘Edit’ and ‘Merge’. Pick another clip and your phone will combine the two – it’s a great for linking your videos without the long process of importing them to the editor.
