Step by step: share shots online using Shozu

What’s the point?

Save time in front of your computer and upload your snaps as soon as they’re shot. It’ll mean your mates see your pictures without you having to fumble with email attachments – result!

Is it free?

Apart from your data plan, absolutely.

Sold! How do I do it?

Step 1: Download Shozu here. It’s easy to install, you just create an account online, choose your handset’s make and model and tap in your phone number. You’ll get a text with a direct link to download Shozu to your phone. Poke the link, follow the instructions and load it from your ‘Applications’ folder once it’s installed.

Step 2: When Shozu loads, choose ‘Options’ followed by ‘Activate’. You’ll be asked if you already have a Shozu account. Play nice by answering ‘Yes’ and tap in the username and password you chose at Shozu.com.

Step 3: Shozu uploads photos as soon as you take them, but you need to tell it where to send them. It’s easiest to do this online, so plonk yourself back in front of the computer and head back to Shozu.com. Sign in and choose the ‘Share-it’ tab at the top of the page. Here you can choose which photo sharing sites Shozu will send your phone’s snaps to.

There’s support for lots of destinations, including Flickr and Google Blogger, as well as less obvious ones. You can even choose to upload any newsworthy snaps you take direct to BBC.co.uk or Scoopt.com, who will try to sell them on to newspapers for you if you fancy playing paparazzi!

Each destination will have its own username and password, and some are set up differently to others. Follow the instructions on the website and you’ll have it set up in under a minute no matter which sharing site you use. Once it’s saved the settings will appear on your phone.

Step 4: Lastly you need to tell Shozu when to upload your photos. Head back to your phone, load Shozu, hit ‘Options’ and choose ‘Settings’. Next choose ‘Share-it’ and have a look at the setting for ‘New images.’

Here you have three choices. If you want to upload every photo you take choose ‘Auto save’ – that’s the easiest option, as you’ll never be asked any questions, but it’ll also mean embarrassing shots could end up online. Not. Good.

To be asked before uploading each new photo choose ‘Confirm save’ – this is probably the best option. If you never want Shozu to upload images make sure ‘Skip’ is selected, but then you needn’t have bothered reading any of this.

Step 5: Exit the settings screen and you’re done! Next time you take a photo you’ll see it automatically uploaded to your favourite photo-sharing site, or at least be asked whether you’d like it uploaded. You don’t need to keep the Shozu application open, it integrates with your phone so from here on you can ignore it if you like – you’ll be asked relevant questions whenever you take a photo.
