Open your ears up to the world of Internet radio. It’ll chew up your data tariff, but who’s counting when you get access to a plethora of international radio. And podcasts.
What’s the point?
Treat your ears to sounds from around the world! There’s more choice than FM, high quality like DAB and best of all it’ll work on any phone with a data tariff!
Is it free?
Completely
Sold! How do I do it?
Step 1: Download the Spodtronic player here. It’s got a stupid name, but it’ll deliver top-notch radio using the power of the Internet. Bluetooth it to your phone (or shovel it on using a USB cable) and install it. It’ll take a while to install, so leave it going and make yourself a cup of tea.
Step 2: Once Spodtronic’s installed itself head to the ‘Applications’ folder and fire it up. Agree to all the legal waffle and dive into the player proper. You’ll see it’s sponsored by Virgin Radio at the moment, but that doesn’t mean you’re stuck listening to their stations.
Thumb your way to the ‘Live radio’ section. Hit ‘Top radio stations’ and flick right or left to pick a station, pick an access point and enjoy the tunes. You’ll see the name of the current track and extra info listed on the screen. Some stations even let you rate the current song.
Step 3: You can narrow down the choice of internet radio stations using Spodtronic’s built in directory. Pick it from the ‘Live radio’ menu and choose a genre or country to filter by.
Favourite station not listed? You can suggest it at Spodtronic.com, or try out podcasts instead - choose them from the main menu in the same way as radio stations, although you’ll have to download them before you can listen.
