Okay, it might be a bit of a slow news day. Well, it is summer (still), it’s a Friday and most people are already down the boozer sinking a few before the weekend. Us though, we’re still slogging away, trying to find something mildly amusing to write so you’ll have something mildly amusing to read. Well, we couldn’t so you get this instead. Four of our favourite tips from the S60 hints and tips section. Go on, you might learn something.

Four of our favourite tips from the S60 hints and tips section of S60.com. Go on, you might learn something.

Marking messages, contacts etc
If you want to mark a few items in a list, then simply hold down the edit button (the one that looks like a pencil) and move the joystick up or down the list. When you release the button, you’ll see the messages or contacts you’ve selected are marked. Much faster than going into the “mark/unmark” option in the menu.

Conference calling
You don’t need a fancy schmantzy offering from your network to make conference calls, you can do it right on your Nok. Once you’ve made the first call, simply hit Options> New Call and either dial the number or select a contact from your address book. You can do this with up to six different numbers at the same time. Genius.

Dump a rubbish app
Got an app that’s annoying you (Mobiluck did it for us)? Then head to your Application manager, find it from the list, select Options > Remove and bingo, the app is no more.

The Edit key
The edit key is crucial for quickly sorting text or email messages. Whilst typing a message tap the edit key twice to pull up the edit menu which allows you to insert a symbol, change from alpha to numeric keypad and cut, copy or paste text. Super handy.

So there you have it. Four things that an hour ago we didn’t actually know an S60 phone could do. Call us ignorant, but there’s plenty we know it can do and anyway we’re all still learning.

Competition time
Now then. Have you got a top tip you’d like to share with the group? Add it below in a comment and we’ll pick out the best one as a recipient of a spanking new NokNok t-shirt. Don’t ask us what the T-shirts are like as we haven’t made them yet. Chances are they’ll be white, and have Malcolm and the NokNok logo on the front. There’s only one, and myself and Mike will be judging the tips. Closing date for entry is the end of September. The T-shirt will be awarded and sent some time after that. Judges decision is final. No financial reward and all that malarky. This competition has nothing to do with Nokia or any of its subsidiaries. It’s being held by NokNok.tv. Read the terms and conditions of the site if you’re not sure.
