Pencils are so last year. Keep your score on your phone and you’ll be able to do all sorts of cool stuff to make your game a little bit more enjoyable – even if you go round in 100….
Judgement time…
Unlike its rivals, WeGolf doesn’t dress itself up in a fancy interface, in fact, there are few graphics at all. What you do get is a fast, stable scorecard, with a few bonus features thrown in for good measure.
Like IntelliGolf Eagle OTA, WeGolf can download course data from the internet, so you’ll spend less time tapping in stats and more time tapping in balls.
There’s also GPS support built in, although testing it with the N95 it was sluggish and of questionable use, especially given its drain on the handset’s battery.
Unlike many rivals, WeGolf offers the option to take photos as you progress ‘round a course. The idea is that these snaps can be tagged to games and courses, although in practice we couldn’t get the system to work, as it drained the N95’s memory.
Likewise, there’s the option to add player’s details into a game from your address book, although strangely, WeGolf only imports phone numbers and ignores their names.
It’s clear WeGolf has huge potential. Its core scorecard system works well, serving up stats through an easy to use interface, although there are too many features here than simply don’t work, or don’t live up to expectations.
