Yes, that’s right - now you can watch proper, full fat television shows on your Nokia S60 phone. None of that second rate made-for-mobile stuff. And it’s all thanks to a nifty device called Slingbox.
Slingbox is one of the most valuable gadgets a telly addict can own. It hooks up to your cable/satellite/Freeview box, DVD player and whatever else you have sitting under your TV and then sends live pictures to you over the Internet, wherever you are. It’s called “placeshifting” and it’s smashing - you can even control a Sky+ box remotely, setting recordings and accessing stuff you’ve recorded previously.
Until now, the SlingPlayer software has been restricted to computers and Windows/Pocket PC mobiles, but this week it’s hit S60 3rd edition in the UK, meaning you can catch up with your favourite soap in Kathmandu using your N or E series Nokia (as long as you’re on a Wi-Fi hotspot).
The software costs £19.99 and can be downloaded here, and you’ll also need a Slingbox - those start at about £100. Now if you’ll excuse us, we’re off to watch Heroes on the khazi.
