Keep up to date with Yahoo!’s tasty melting pot of web-based services, including email, GPS support, news feeds and loads more, crammed inside your mobile.
Is it free?
Absolutely.
Sold! How do I do it?
Step 1: Head to mobile.yahoo.com/go using your desktop PC. Fill in your details and you’ll get a text message. Hit the download link inside it and Yahoo! Go will land on your mobile. Fire it up from within your ‘Applications’ folder and log in with your usual Yahoo! username and password.
Step 2: A brief tutorial will teach you the basics of navigating Yahoo! Go’s menus, although they’re very intuitive. Because the software works with your usual Yahoo account, all your email and calendar settings will be present.
Step 3: If your mobile has GPS built in, you’ll need to give Yahoo! Go permission to use it. Head to the Maps widget by moving left and right across the bottom of the screen. Tap into it and choose ‘Menu’ followed by ‘Options’ and ‘Connect GPS Device’. Yahoo!’s software works well with the N95’s built in GPS function, although like all satnav software, it needs a clear view of the sky for a strong signal. Once it’s got a lock, you can tap ‘2’ to zoom to your current location.
Step 4: Yahoo!’s news feeds work by employing keywords, so you’re only shown items that interest you. The Go software calls these words Watchlists and adds them through the respective content area, whether it’s News, Sport, Entertainment or My Stocks. Just tap ‘Follow Teams’ under Sport for example, and you’ll be prompted to add a search term for the software to track for you.
Step 5: If your friends take a shine to Yahoo! Go you can pass it on. Just hit ‘Options’ and choose ‘Share Yahoo! Go’. You’ll be asked for their contact details, then they’ll get an invite to use the service too.
