Game: Robo

In a nutshell…

You’ll have seen top down block-pusher puzzles like this before, but it’s done well, and with graphics that’re good enough to eat.

Judgement time…

Robo’s nothing new. Top down puzzle-em-ups have been around since the 80s. What is new is that it’s well designed, executed beautifully and with a difficulty curve that’s pitched exactly right.

Playing as the titular robot, Robo tasks you with shoving boulders and mirrors around to defeat mazes packed with lethal lasers and bombs. It’s simple to play, but difficult to master.

Unlike other games of its ilk, Robo’s puzzles can sometimes be solved in a variety of ways, offering a mental workout in later levels.

For once the game’s music is bearable too, and unusually for a mobile game there’s the option to change its volume. Not a massive feature, but a welcome one for anyone playing with headphones who value their eardrums.

Check it out, it might not be the most action packed of games, but it’s definitely one of the best designed and for that, it’s five stars from us.
