Turn your N95 8GB into a mobile movie theatre, packed with 30 of your favourite films at the best possible quality – there’ll always be something to watch, and the morning commute will fly by!
What’s the point?
Make the most of the new N95‘s massive storage space and gorgeous screen by packing it full of films – it’s the best way to beat commuter hell with your Nokia!
Is it free?
Apart from the cost of DVDs, yes.
Sold! How do I do it?
1) Download Handbrake here and install it to your Mac or PC. It’ll let you rip films from DVDs and encode them for your N95 in one simple step.
2) Once Handbrake is installed, slip in your first DVD and fire up the application. When Handbrake asks for a Source, point it at your DVD drive. It’ll scan the disc to figure out where the film starts and ends. Give it a few seconds, and you’ll see the main settings screen.
3) Type a filename in the Destination field, so Handbrake knows where to save your film once it’s ripped and encoded. Next, choose MP4 file from the Format section, and choose MPEG-4 Video / AAC Audio from the Codecs option box. This will make sure the video is encoded in a format your N95 can play back.
4) Next, choose 25 in the framerate box, and type 200 into the Average bitrate box.
5) Lastly choose Picture Settings and with the Keep Aspect Ratio box ticked, reduce the width of your picture to 320. Click close, and you’ll return to the settings screen.
6) Hit Start and Handbrake will begin converting your film. When it’s finished, transfer the file to your mobile using the supplied USB cable. With the settings we’ve given you a two hour film will use up around 260 megabytes of storage. The new black N95 has eight gigabytes of storage, so with average length films, you’ll be able to squeeze in 30 movies and still have space for music and photos!
