Well, it’s been a while coming but we’re a scant 24 hours away from the Nokia Music Store throwing wide open its doors for those first hungry customers. We were treated to a heads up last night and initial impressions are “impressed”.

Okay, so there’s no iTunes-a-like app to download (that’s coming later) but the gem of this store is the way it works seamlessly across your PC and your Music Store-enabled blower.
See, buy or choose a song on your mobile, and it’ll be there when you next sync to your PC. There’s also a neat little wishlist function, which enables you to select songs when you’re on the move (or at your PC) ready for you to purchase when you get into an area with decent coverage.
Still, we found it a little odd as to why the store is launching now (save for the arrival of a fruity 2G phone next week) and when pressed, the man with the keyboard could only say “it’s ready now”. (Which it clearly isn’t - where’s the desktop app?). Mmm.
Tracks are 80pence and albums £8 from a selection of millions of songs. You can also subscribe to stream as much music as you want to your PC. No word on streaming to other devices, or your phone yet but the men in charge hinted there could be something coming.
We asked why 80p for a track and instead of getting our hoped for response of “One Louder!” we got some tosh about being competitive, but not the cheapest. Such an opportunity to make a big deal out of it simply missed. If you don’t know what we’re on about, ask…
On more pressing matters, the UK is the only country to get the new store for now, others will follow in the new year.
