Sonic’s back (again!), with a brand new plimsole-sizzling sprint-a-thon designed specifically for your Nok.
Judgement time...
We’re used to Sonic being a blistering side-scrolling platformer in the most traditional sense. Whiz around, collect the rings, batter Dr Robotnik and save fluffy animals from becoming mechanised drones. If all of that sounds familiar, you’ll be all over Sonic Jump, because that’s all here but it’s even slicker.
The game’s been specifically tailored for phones, so it’s not a console port as such. See, instead of side-scrolling, Sonic Jump flips the action 90 degrees, making the blue hedgehog bounce vertically to topple opponents and reach the end of a level.
That said, in essence Sonic’s gameplay DNA is unaltered. You still need to spin to best your opponents, you still play out the action against robot rivals, and the game still begins in the familiar Green Hill Zone. The only thing that’s changed is the screen orientation and Dr Robotnik has been replaced by the less menacing Dr Eggman.
Graphically, Sonic Jump thumbs all the right buttons. Familiar vibrant visuals are dished up in smooth style as landscapes speed past your blue ears. There’s no jerkiness here, just pure fun from the first button-tap. Download it, say hello to the hedgehog and goodbye to a few hours of your free time.
