Game: Blazar

In a nutshell…

It’s a side-scroller Jim, but not as we like it! Seriously, save yourself five minutes and go and read another story. Honestly. Don’t click read more. It’s utter rubbish.

Judgement time…

Side-scrolling is to space shoot-em-ups what Vanessa Feltz is to pies. The two were made for each other. But unlike Feltz let loose in a bakery, Blazar handles its task with a joyless and monotony, it’s almost as if it’s uninterested in its own existence.

We know the deal here. Scroll along, zap as many enemies as possible, power up your guns and batter a boss or two along the way. What we’re not used to are sound effects that pummel the skull, walls that can be driven through and enemies that are more pacifist than Yoko Ono.

It’s a sorry state of affairs, and a waste of almost four quid. See, the game’s so dull it becomes a chore after more than five minutes. Levels are drab and boring, while your opponents simply glide past, putting up no fight in the face of your laser beams.

Save yourself the cash and plump for a different side-shooter. This should simply disappear down a black hole.
