Nokia’s going all next-generation on us and together with O2 are putting together trials for using your blower as an Oyster card on the tube.

For non-Londoners, the Oyster card is already in place instead of tickets for getting on and off the tube and buses. Trials start today with the new Nokia 6131 NFC which will replace the humble Oyster card and enable 500 eager testers to use their blower to open the gates.

The device will have the O2 wallet installed which will contain the equivalent of an Oyster card and a Barclaycard, in virtual form. By simply swiping at an Oyster top up machine, the testers will be able to top up their cards, even if the phone rings half way through.

Payments of less than £10 will also be tested at a range of ‘contactless’ payment readers placed in retailers. Testers will be able to snaffle goods from the likes of Books Etc, Coffee Republic, EAT and Krispy Kreme. They might even be up for a bit of action at The O2, once the trial develops.
