GyPSii has just popped up on our radar (it’s very temperamental, see), and flippin’ heck it’s properly worth a look.
Basically, it’s a social networking site with a big difference, and that difference is that everything revolves around GPS.
Snap a photo with a GPS-equipped phone (like the N95) and GyPSii‘s mobile app “geotags” it with your current coordinates - so when you upload it to the site other users can squiz the exact location where your shot was taken on an interactive Google map!
It’s genius, and it’s not limited to photos either. You can also upload geotagged video footage and sound clips, as well as use the map to add the locations of places you want to share with your online buddies. Found a pub that does a mean Sunday roast? Tag it on the map and anyone nearby will be able to rock up and chow down. And if you don’t think it all sounds a bit 1984, you can keep your mates informed of your current location too.
GyPSii is currently only available for Windows Mobile handsets (boo!) but Symbian S60 support is promised “in the next few days” (yay!). Got a Nok with a GPS receiver? Head over to the GyPSii website, sign up and get acquainted…
