Nokia's new killer Internet service

We’ve just been treated to a sneaky look at Ovi and boy, what a treat (or should we say treats) the Nok has in store for us. Super slick design, a seamless service linking your phone to your computer and a bunch of tasty new apps coming our way.

Next summer will see a brand new series 60 operating system land and it’ll have full Ovi integration. There won’t be an app or a launcher, Ovi will just be there when you need it. You’ll be able to browse pics on your phone using Tag Clouds, upload snaps automatically to sites such as Flicker and Facebook and back up and restore your phone over the air.

Towards the end of next year we’ll see a full on Ovi app launch for your PC or Mac. It’ll tie the seven services together (Maps, Photos, Games, People, Video, Music and the Internet). The way Ovi ties everything together across your phone and PC is super neat. It’s a little bit like iTunes, but it seems so much more versatile. Dragging and dropping files is a cinch, your phone is always backed up when you’re away from your computer and you don’t need to plug in to sync.

Once on your PC, you’ll be able to browse all your files from your phone with some killer user interface elements available too.

Keep your diary and contacts up to date and you’ll see how Ovi wraps them neatly into your camera, tagging photos with names and using the built-in GPS to geotag the snap before labeling it up with the correct occasion from your calendar. Each step Ovi takes just seems to layer on more brilliance.

We’re super excited about seeing Ovi come to life. Having experienced a real-life demo, we can confirm this is going to be much bigger than you’d imagined and a year from now, you won’t know how you lived without it.
