In a nutshell

PC Suite 2.0 gives you extra apps without fiddly downloads or cumbersome installations. Our top tricks let you get even more out of the new software.

Is it free?

It won’t cost you a penny.

Sold! How do I do it?

Step 1 Fine tune PC Suite to your phone

Fire up PC Suite and click on the spanner icon at the top right. You’ll find yourself in the Tools section. Hit ‘Settings’ and tap the ‘Update Manager’ tab.

Here you’ll be able to tell PC Suite to only update applications if they apply to your phone. Do that by choosing your handset from the drop down list. If your phone doesn’t appear, you’ll need to connect it to the computer and have used it with PC Suite at least once before. This setting is great if you have more than one handset, as it lets you choose the most advanced phone, meaning you’ll get all the latest updates for it.

Step 2 Setup your startup

Nokia PC Suite won’t start automatically when your PC is switched on unless you tell it to. You’ll find that option under the ‘General’ tab of the settings screen. It’s worth switching this option on, as it’ll mean PC Suite can quietly check for updates and download them, even if you haven’t plugged your mobile in for days. Make sure you check the box to start the program as a minimised app too, so it doesn’t get in the way each time your computer starts up.

Step 3 Download more apps

If the extra apps included in Nokia PC Suite aren’t enough, head into the Tools section and choose ‘Download!’ It’ll let you browse applications through your PC, then shovel them onto your handset. There’s everything from game demos to extra apps, just mooch through and grab whatever takes your fancy!

Step 4 Beautiful backup

Nokia’s new PC Suite knows instantly when there’s new software available for your phone, and it’s tempting to install it the second it pops up. Beware though, as updating the software on your mobile will almost certainly wipe some, if not all, of its data. Use PC Suite’s Content Copier to back up your phone before undertaking an upgrade and you’ll have a painless experience.

Step 5 Drag and drop

To transfer files quickly from your PC to Nokia, just drag them onto the lower section of the PC Suite window. You’ll know when you’re hovering over the right place, as it’ll turn turquoise.
