3D shooters don’t usually make it to mobiles, thanks to their hefty graphic requirements. This one has though, and it’s surprisingly good.
Judgement time…
We’re used to being disappointed by “3D” games on mobiles. Yes, newer Nokias have 3D acceleration built in, but they’re still not as powerful as dedicated handheld consoles. Or are they?
Brothers In Arms proves our assumptions could be wrong. Not only does it pack in 3D graphics, they’re the real deal too. Exploding buildings, obstacles, swooping aeroplanes – you name it, it’s here.
Sure, at first glance, those graphics look blocky and a little crude, but give it a few minutes and they’ll grow on you. Plus, once you see some of the exploding building effects, you’ll be seriously impressed.
As far as gameplay is concerned, Brothers In Arms is fairly straight forward. There’ll be few surprises here if you’ve ever played a shooter on a console or PC. The recipe is simple: run, take cover, shoot, run some more, shoot some more. It’s action at its purest and most enjoyable. In fact, the only drawback is the need to use the D-pad and number keys at the same time for some manoeuvres, a task not too comfortable on most handsets.
For the most part, however, this is a solid shooter with graphics beyond that of your regular phone fare, and at £3 it’s worth it for the graphical eye-opening alone.
