It’s been a gargantuan year for the Finnish phonesketeers, slicing our mobile expectations to shreds with some killer announcements (and a couple of berserkers!). So with 2008 lurking on the other side of the weekend, we thought we’d blow the dust off the blog archives and highlight our favourite Nokia-related shocks, goss and news nuggets of 2007.
Death to the iPhone!
Nokia iPhone-killer - World’s first pics
Touchscreen? Check. Accelerometer? Check. Stomp all over Apple? Oh yeah! And we’ve got the world’s first pics. Nokia might have been taunting us with news of the N81 and N95, but it kept it’s killer device up its sleeve.
Ovi moly!
Ovi, N-Gage and the Nokia Music store
Ovi, Finnish for ‘door’ acts as your gateway to the Internet, and Nokia’s own Internet-based services including N-Gage gaming, Nokia Music Store and Nokia Maps. We’ll also see a host of other Internet-based services, including Nokia Photos, coming under Ovi’s umbrella over the coming months.
Widget wonderment!
Nokia working on intelligent widgets
We’re in Oulu for Nokia’s “The way we live next” event and a Nokia rep has just revealed the company could be developing intelligent widgets for our blowers. Talking about the next generation of Web applications, Ganesh Sivaraman, Nokia’s man on web apps, paints a very exciting picture of what we can expect next…

Nokia’s new eco-handset: the 3110 evolve
If your conscience has been getting the better of you lately, then you’re probably a prime candidate for the new Nokia 3110 evolve. Boasting some über eco credentials, Nokia’s candidate for the green vote actually looks quite nice too.
GPS overload
10 new GPS handsets next year!”
Nokia’s head of devices Kai Öistämö just stood up and said we should expect to see no less than 10 GPS-enabled devices appear over the coming year. Looks like the Nok is ready to start making use of that little mapping company it’s buying.
Pen-o-doom!
Oh no, the digital pen is back!
Just when we thought we were safe from really useless, rubbish ideas and inventions, Nokia reveals another Digital pen. What’s going on? Why, who, where and when (will it go away)?
...and happy New Year from from all two of us here at NokNok!
