Nokia Beta Labs has just launched a lovely new app that automatically tags your photos with their exact location using GPS – and it’s coming to all compatible handsets in the future.
Location tagging, or “geotagging”, means that you can upload your N95 or N82 snaps to a photo sharing site like Flickr, Picasa Web or Panoramio and have your mates and family know exactly where each one was taken. Flickr, for instance, can display each of your photos as a dot on a map, showing in the clearest way possible where you snapped each shot.
Location Tagger basically fires up your phone’s GPS receiver then feeds the location data into each photo’s EXIF header automatically. We’ve just given it a whirl and while it’s not quite seamless – you need to fire up the app before you start taking photos – it’s a piece of cake to use. The good news is that it’s going to get even easier, as the Nok has plans to integrate geotagging into all available phones eventually – so in the future, as long as you’re in sight of the GPS satellites, your pics will be tagged without you having to lift a finger (except to press the camera button, natch).
