How to use your N95 as a broadband modem on Mac and PC

What’s the point?

Forget paying a fortune for Wi-Fi or fumbling with network cables in hotel rooms. Your N95 can get your computer online at broadband speeds wherever you are, whether it’s a PC or Mac.

Is it free?

Apart from your data tariff, yep!

Sold! How do I do it?

Step 1:

If you’re using a PC connecting to the internet through your phone couldn’t be simpler. Just download the newest version of Nokia’s Software Suite here and install it onto your PC. Next hook up your N95 using a USB cable and tap on the One Touch Access (OTA) panel at the top of Nokia Software Suite.

Your phone should connect to the internet, and share its connection with your PC. If it doesn’t, tap into the OTA settings wizard, choose manual configuration in the ‘Operator’ window and tap in your connection settings. You may need to contact your network for these.

Step 2:

If you’re using a Mac, plug in your N95 using a USB cable and tap into the ‘System Preferences’ panel from the dock. Next, tap ‘Network’ and select your phone from the column on the left.

Choose ‘Show modem status in menu bar’ then tap into ‘Advanced’ and choose Nokia from the ‘Vendor’ list, and ‘GPRS (GSM/3G)’ from the model list.

Choose ‘OK’ and hit the ‘Connect’ button. If your phone fails to connect, you might need to add a telephone number under the ‘Network’ panel or an Access Point Name (APN) under the ‘Advanced’ panel. Contact your network provider for those details if you need them.

Hi, I`ll explain my problem to the detail and hope I get it solved.
    Using:
-Windows XP service pack 2 on my PC
-Nokia N95, and my brother has N95 8GB so both available
    -Nokia PC Suite version 7.1.30.9
-Using internet on dad’s laptop since I am interned dry on my PC.
    Objective:
-To have interned on my room PC.
My dad has recently installed wireless rooter in our home, we have two PCs and two laptops so it much more practical then all those cables running through our house. Ever since we had internet whenever I started to get bad in school my dad banned IP of my PC in my room, so I am without internet which as you may have guessed i don’t like. I then got my screwdriver and took network card from living room PC and replaced it with mine. It worked well for couple of weeks when I got busted, and sadly got that IP also banned lol. So with introduction of wireless in to our home I got idea to hook up my N95 (he has connection and he will not get banned because the main reason of the bans is to no play games online and waste time) to the PC and use it as wireless modem, and when dad looks on connection report he will just see phones IP. I followed your instructions and downloaded the newest version of Nokia’s PS Suite and installed it. Plugged my phone on USB and started Nokia’s PS Suite he indentified my phone and offered some things to install on my phone (might have been pluggins but I’m not 100% sure, two of them anyway), when that was over opened One Touch Access and it said “No modem found!” and above “There are no Nokia modems installed. Please make sure you have installed Nokia Connectivity Cable driver software.” so I did. When to Nokia`s website and downloaded Nokia_Connectivity_Cable_Driver_eng.msi and started it. But when it opens there are just options to Rapair or Remove it, as if it is already installed. So I’m stuck there no idea what to do next. . .
I’m waging losing war over here urgency of you response is of vital importance.
    Marko.

    Hi, Marko

I think you are over reacting and life don’t end with the internet connectivity. I think you don’t see clearly that you need to study now so you can solve your internet connectivity problems later alone-your dad’s point of view is exactly that. Study now because later in life you won’t have time to do that. If you don’t study you will end up with no future and no way out from the everyday problems. Knowledge is a gold wich ios ahrd to learn but once achieved pays to the end.
