Software: PowerMovie

In a nutshell...

A video player for your mobile, but not one you should install!

What’s it good for?

Attempting to open video files, although there are more reliable options that cost a lot less…

Judgement time…

PowerMovie is designed to turn your mobile into a mini movie theatre, chewing up AVI, DivX or XviD files and showing them off on your Nokia’s screen. We say designed, but unfortunately, it’s not designed very well.

There’s a problem here, as PowerMovie is incredibly picky. So picky, in fact, that we struggled to find a file it would accept.

Even when presented with sample DivX files from the codec firm’s own website, PowerMovie refused to work. It also struggled with plain old AVI files, and XviD was similarly fruitless.

All in all, PowerMovie has more problems than a sudoku convention. It’s amazing that software of this quality can be sold for enough money that it comes in folding form, especially when DivX’s own software is more reliable, packs better features, and is free.

Our advice is to avoid PowerMovie. It’s simply too unreliable to justify the cost.
