Nokia just announced it’s got the scoop on Microsoft by being the first mobile firm to put the Big M’s Silverlight technology on its phones… even before Windows Mobile!
It’s big news for Nokia. Silverlight is Microsoft’s answer to Adobe Flash, letting websites and applications run slick animation and speedy video, even over mobile internet connections.
Previously, Silverlight has only been available on desktop computers, and Nokia’s phones will be the first mobile devices to use it. Nokia says it’ll make the technology available on handsets running Symbian S60, Series 40 and its range of internet tablets.
Meanwhile, Microsoft says it’ll be showing off Silverlight on S60 during the opening keyote of its MIX08 conference in Las Vegas tomorrow.
There’s still no word on when Silverlight will be available for Windows Mobile devices, so once again this puts Nokia ahead of the competition. Get in!
