Last.fm hits your Nok

Not heard of Last.fm? Well, if you happen to be a music fan, it’s quite simply one of the best apps you can run on your computer. And now it’s come to your mobile phone too…

Last.fm recommends new music to you based on the stuff you already listen to. How? Well, every time you play a track on your iPod or PC it gets “scrobbled” to your profile on the Last.fm website, allowing the app to slowly build up a profile of your musical tastes. After it’s locked down what it thinks you’ll like, you’ll be given recommendations accordingly. I’ve been using it on my PC for a few months now, and it’s turned me onto a few brilliant bands and artists I’d probably never have heard of otherwise. Which is smashing.

Well, a clever chap by the name of Douglas Fernando da Silva has developed aspyplayer, a Last.fm scrobbler for S60 phones. That means those of you who use your Nokia for listening to music can whizz your listens over to Last.fm automatically, straight from your mobile. It’s only in beta at the moment, and it supports scrobbling only, but by the time the full release rolls around there could be even more features: fingers crossed Doug manages to get Last.fm’s streaming radio service in there too! If you want to grab the beta, you can do so here.

You’ll need Python for S60 installed on your phone too, which you can get here. Happy listening!
