With so many Nokia-related blogs on the web, keeping track of all the choicest news-cuts can be tricky. That’s why we’ve roamed the Internet to collect up this week’s biggest blog stories, then stuck ‘em all here. Read on!
N95 8GB finally arrives Stateside
One for our US-based readers, this. Engadget is reporting that the N95 8GB is now available for purchase in America. The super-smart do-it-all phone (GPS, HSDPA, Wi-Fi, 5-meg camera, 8GB storage, a lovely black finish…) has been out in Europe since late last year, and now our cousins over the pond can get a proper taste of why it’s such a kick-arse (or should we say “ass” in this case) device. It’s priced at around $800.
FM aerial sends N95Blog radio ga-ga!
Steve at the N95Blog has discovered a cut-price way to turn the N95 in a “high quality FM radio”: a plug-in antenna. Of course, the N95 already has an FM tuner, and uses the headphone lead as its aerial – but what if you want to listen to your favourite show through the phone’s speakers? Well, you use this, which costs about £4 on eBay and works like a treat, according to Steve. It’s not just for the N95, by the way: it’s compatible with any FM radio-equipped handset with a 3.5mm headphone socket.
GPS-less geotagging for your photos?
Photo geotagging (as performed by Nokia’s own Location Tagger app) is a pretty natty feature for a phone to carry, but unless your handset has built-in GPS, you’re out of luck, right? Well possibly not: Symbian Freak is running a story about Wi-Fi geotagging, which uses nearby Wi-Fi hotspots to plot your position. Clever stuff (Apple’s iPod Touch uses it already) and apparently it’s coming to mobiles very soon.
Visiting London? Fancy a free travel guide?
This might not be much use if, like us, you live in London, but if you’re thinking of taking a trip to our fair city you might want to bring Coolgorilla’s free mobile travel guide with you. Available for free download from www.londontravelguide.com, it packs over 400 pages of tourist information, designed to be viewed on your mobile phone screen. Guides for Paris, Barcelona, New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco are on the way, according to the story at All About Symbian.
