Nokia wants to make your phone an HD ready movie player!

We’ve just got wind of a current Nokia Research Labs project called “noBounds”, and we’re properly excited: this’ll let you stream hi-def video from your Nok to your TV.

Apparently, the project is aiming to deliver full HD pictures (that’s a pixel-packed resolution of 1920 x 1080, stat fans) running at a speed of 30fps, via either USB or Wi-Fi. If your telly doesn’t have either of these built in (and very few do, let’s face it) you could hook up some kind of dongle and it would work that way. So in theory you could stick some lovely hi-def movies on your N96, take it to a mate’s house, hook the phone up to his 50-inch TV and kick back with the popcorn. And apparently the power consumption is low too, so you won’t have to worry about your battery getting emptied.

Exciting stuff indeed, even if it probably is a few years away from becoming a reality. Still, head over to Engadget and take a peek at the video for a closer look at what the folks on the noBounds project are up to.
