Time to make use of that camera, filmmakers!

There’s a competition going on, and we need to get involved. Nokia has launched the 2008 Mobile Filmmaking awards where punters can create and submit short videos to be included in the first ever Pangea Day broadcast on 10 May.

You have until 15 April to shoot, edit and submit your short film. It must be less than two minutes and fall into one of these categories: An act of kindness, someone inspiring, the best part of the day or something that makes you smile.

What’s at stake? Well, five finalists will be selected by online voting (the NokNok users can help out here!) and then flown to Los Angeles for the event. Pro judges including Jehane Noujaim and Dave Stewart will form a panel with some others to review the videos prior to the brodcast and pick a winner, to be announced on 10 May. The winner will bag a mobile filmmaking trip of a lifetime and a production budget to record their trip.

If any NokNok users get involved, make sure to post a link to your video in the forums. We’ll do a roundup before voting starts and make sure NokNok users gets some coverage.

What are you waiting for?

Here’s some press release bumpf about Pangea Day

“Pangea Day was created by award-winning documentary filmmaker Jehane Noujaim after winning the prestigious 2006 TED Prize. Together, Noujaim, TED and Nokia have created Pangea Day to connect people by harnessing the power of film and encouraging people to view the world through someone else’s eyes.”
