Think it’s pretty swish to have a phone packed with as much music as mid-range MP3 player? Of course it is. What’s even smarter is stream your phone-full of tunes wirelessly to a portable speaker via Bluetooth. So here’s our pick of five Blueys with the power to rock your bleeding socks off…

Altec Lansing inMotion SoundBlade iMT525

As big as: A thundering rawk ballad from a bloke with big hair

The SoundBlade is an A2DP Stereo Bluetooth-enabled device that, with dual 2-inch full-range high output drivers and SRS TruBass, should make your tunes sound pretty sweet. The “blade” design measures 15.5 x 28 x 2.5cm, so more a model for slipping in a laptop case than in your pocket, but its ability to work as a wireless speakerphone too but might justify the space in your sack.

Parrot PARTY Black Edition

As big as: A disco diva’s booty shakin’ anthem

This bone-shaped 22.8 x 8.5 x 7.9cm speaker will give your phone A2DP Stereo Bluetooth love from up to ten metres away and for up to eight hours from its mains-rechargable battery. Tech-wise there’s a Class-D amplifier, two drivers with a total power output of 6 Watts and proprietary Parrot jiggery-pokery in the form of Stereo Widening and Virtual SuperBass.

GEAR4 BlackBox Mini

As big as:A well-rounded indie classic

The looker of the bunch, the BlackBox Mini offers a minimalist design, a sexy deep black gloss finish (fingerprint-tastic though, we’d warrant) a hidden LED display and touch-sensitive controls in a 16 x 5 x 5cm package all bundled up in its own smart little carry case. The side-firing 4 watt output may not blast you away, but it sure is purty…

Nokia MD-7W

As big as: A perky three-minute pop toon

With the most traditional design of the round up, the Nokia MD-7W comprises of two 5.2 x 10.5 x 6.6cm speakers that offer stereo-widened 3D sound and hearty bass. There’s magnetic tom-foolery thrown in for convenient portability that we assume means the two units stick together, rather than you being able to sucker the things onto your car roof. Do give it a try though. Capable and classic.
