Heard of WiMAX yet? It’s a really nifty technology that basically takes the concept of Wi-Fi but increases the effective range to miles rather than metres. And now it’s coming to a special version of the N810 Internet Tablet!
WiMAX delivers broadband speeds – usually something like 2-4Mbps, but it can go up to 10Mbps – and because each base station has a range of a few miles, providers can deliver wireless Internet access to an entire city using just a handful. Like we said, really nifty technology if you’re roaming around and don’t want to keep switching Wi-Fi hotspots for your mobile web fix.
So Nokia stuffing it into thee N810, the firm’s premier Internet-surfing device, makes perfect sense. The handset will hit the US this summer, presumably arriving here soon after, and as well as its new wireless abilities it’ll boast a new, slicker operating system. Existing owners of the N810 or N800 will be able to grab this OS as a free download in the coming months.
