CoPilot’s latest mobile sliver of satnav software is touted as one of the big shots. So we revved up the ol’ N95 8GB to put it through its paces.
Judgement time...
When you’re planning a road trip, there’s nothing worse than being unprepared with only unreliable, out of date paper maps to guide you along non-existent roads and over the edge of cliffs.
With no extra set up required (forget plugging into your PC unless you want to update speed cameras), you can be up and running as fast as you can shove a memory card into your phone and dispose of your 1990 roadmap of Britain.
The mapping is super-clear with your location stamped as an unmistakeable red circle, and your path represented with a chunky yellow arrow layered on trusty Navteq maps.
All of the graphics are in 3D and are perfectly optimised for each Nokia screen so you don’t have to worry about squinting to see the route or losing parts of the map off the screen.
Points of Interests are marked with jumbo icons that display the name of the joint as you pass them, and instead of scrolling through countless menus, you can use the number keys on your mobile to shortcut to options, or tap the 1 or 3 keys to zoom in and out of the maps, making this the one of the quickest and clearest mobile satnav apps out there.
With added features such as manual re-routing, traffic alerts and a range of driving views all packed in, you won’t have to worry about paper maps again because the developer ALK Technologies has made CoPilot Live 7 as easy to use as is humanly possible.
