Nokia Remade waiting for recycled material

We’ve been shown some exciting eco-friendly prototypes already by Nokia’s enthusiastic R&D department, including Remade, the wholly recycled handset. The only trouble is sourcing suitable recycled parts in sufficient quantity according to senior eco warriors at the Finnish plant. As you can imagine, turning out handsets in the numbers that Nokia does each day must demand a lot of milk bottle tops.

Before you lose too much sleep over this though, bear in mind that Nokia is already using 40 to 60 per cent recycled metal parts in its handsets and is expecting a ‘big green push’ to drive demand for green products and an increase in electronics recycling.

In the meantime, when Nokia says there’s nothing new about its Remade concept, it’s not joking. Every component of the handset we were shown is a hand-me-down from another phone or recycled material. What’s more, Remade doesn’t seem to be made of hemp or require regular watering, but in fact looks pretty cutting edge we think.

Right then, we’ll be off to help out at the recycling depot…
