Buried in today’s XpressMusic announcement was a juicy N-Gage titbit, the new 5320 will be the first Nok handset to come packing N-Gage, introducing next-gen mobile gaming to the masses.
We had a quick chat with Nokia reps at this morning’s events, and it seems the N-Gage app will be download-only when the handset first hits stores, but pretty soon afterward it’ll come with the gaming software embedded as standard.
It’s a good choice for the first mass market gaming phone. Its speedy 3G and HSDPA connections will make multiplayer games fly, while its large screen and dedicated gaming keys will mean days of pummelling at the number pad are long gone.
Best of all, the direction pad is a proper eight-way affair, with a hefty centre button. That means diagonal scrolling will be smooth and simple.
The icing on Nokia’s game-laden cake is the 5320’s price. Just £175. When you consider it can hold enough memory to petrify an iPod nano, has faster broadband than most landlines, and can suck up games of the same quality as a handheld console, that’s an unbeatable little device.
