Nokia’s just outlined its plan to create phones that’ll last for 25 years, as the chips inside become powerful enough to run almost any app that’s thrown their way.
Outlining the plan at a Behind the Scenes event hosted by Nokia Design, the mobile giant explained that as people begin to depend more and more on services, hardware updates become less important.
It’s the same idea as owning a laptop. You don’t refresh it every 12 or 18 months, because it’s still powerful enough to do your day to day tasks. Whether that’s surfing the web, checking e-mail, communicating with friends or even playing games.
Nokia says this is why it’s investing in services, like the apps released through Beta Labs, as well as creating top notch phones. According to Nokia’s design boffins, there’ll come a time when your phone wears in the more apps you add, rather than wears out.
