Nokia adds real time traffic to Maps

Nokia has teamed up with ARC Transistance to add real time traffic info to its Maps app so it can steer you round congestion before you come to a standstill.

Traffic updates will be available as a premium service in Nokia Maps. If a traffic update comes in while you’re on the road then it will change the route on the fly so you avoid the problem rather than getting stuck in a jam.

The information is supplied by ARC Transistance, which represents motoring organisations across Europe and includes the AA. Its system monitors real time traffic conditions on roads in 16 European countries and then compiles alerts based on this information, so you can be sure it’s always up to date.

With GPS, voice navigation and now real time traffic updates, you could soon ditch the satnav altogether and just use your mobile.
