Adobe and Nokia buddy up for Open Screen Project

Adobe has teamed up with a bunch of handset makers, gadget builders and content producers to create the Open Screen Project with the aim of pushing Flash and Air onto internet devices.

The idea is to create a consistent Flash player across all devices, which hopefully means we can say goodbye to Flash Lite and enjoy the full fat version instead. In addition to Nokia mobile makers LG, Moto, Samsung and Sony Ericsson have all signed up to the cause.

It should make life easier for content makers too, as they only need to create one version that will run the same way on all devices. For example, if the BBC wanted to run its iPlayer TV catch up service on Open Screen devices, it would only need to create one version that would work on all platforms.

Adobe has also promised to make Flash and Air free for mobile devices, so there’s no excuse for handset makers to not include it in the future.
