Nokia has set itself an ambitious target of shifting 35 million GPS enabled handsets in 2008 - that’s more than the total number of satnav devices sold last year.

The news came right from the top as CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo briefed investors on the company’s plans at an annual shareholder meeting.

Kallasvuo was also enthusiastic about the company’s moves into mapping and navigation software.

“When we look at it with the eyes we have now, when regarding pedestrian navigation, map services, digital maps, we are even more excited about the opportunities than when making the decision,” Kallasvuo told the money men.

He also said that the way Nokia operates in the future will change, given its new push into internet services such as music and games, and it will behave more like an internet firm than a hardware manufacturer.
