The weekend is nearly upon us, so we’ve decided to look back on the week that was in web-land, in order to pick out the finest Nokia news morsels for your delectation. Want to know what the top ten stories were this week? Then read on, matey!
1. Nokia wants to get you talking about Communication Center
This story is big for two reasons: first, the hardworking eggheads over at Nokia Beta Labs have wheeled out a new app called Communication Center (which lets you compose messages and fiddle with contacts); and second, they want you to have a say in its development. Try the beta app, post your feedback and your suggestions could help shape an all-new piece of software!
2. First hands-on: CoPilot Live 7 for Symbian
Yes, Nokia Maps is wonderful and everything, but we’ve managed to get our stringback driving-gloved paws on something that transforms your Nok into a fully-blown satnav: CoPilot 7. Click through for our thoughts - presented in video form!
3. Say what you’re up to with Twitterfone
Micro-blogging service Twitter just got even easier to use - a new app dubbed Twitterfone actually allows you to phone in your messages (or “tweets”), so you don’t need to wear out your fingers hammering out texts.
4. Handy app simplifies switching Wi-Fi on your Nok
Find yourself hopping from Wi-Fi hotspot to Wi-Fi hotspot, and getting frustrated about all the clicking that needs to be done every time an app wants to connect to one? Well, we’ve just discovered a great app called Psiloc Connect that makes switching seamless.
All About Symbian brings us an interesting news nugget about Galileo, an upcoming alternative to GPS that may be able to offer satnav indoors - somewhere that’s currently off the menu. But don’t get too excited just yet, folks - it’s not due until 2013…
Symbian Freak gives us the heads-up on a new update for Nokia Maps 2.0. There’s no changelog available, but the Freak claims the download squishes a number of bugs. Click through for a download link.
7. 10-minute N96 preview video!
The N96 is heading our way soon (but not soon enough!), and if you want to remind yourself of why it’s so special, why not feast your peepers on this lengthy hands-on video from the folks at Cellulare, which we spotted on Talk About Nseries.
8. Nokia’s iPhone killer to be called “iPerformer”?!
Engadget Mobile brings us word that Nokia’s iPhone killer has apparently been codenamed “iPerformer.” Wait, isn’t it already codenamed “Tube”? We’re a bit dubious about this one, but we’ll keep an eye out for more developments.
9. Hands-on with the black N82
It’s an N82 - and it’s black! Yes, Nokia revealed a while back that the N82 (currently available only in silver) is getting a lick of new paint, and the N82 Blog has been pawing and prodding one. Follow the link for photos and initial thoughts galore!
We’re back with Engadget Mobile, who have wangled some face time with the upcoming E66 and E71 business smartphones and posted up a huge gallery of shots.
