In a nutshell...

Explore the mysterious island in an action adventure based on the top TV show.

What’s it good for?

Satisfying your Lost cravings until the next series arrives in 2009.

Judgement time...

I’ll confess to being a huge fan of Lost, and having just watched the final episode of the fourth series, I’m already hungry for more of its mix of pretty people and brain-melting sci-fi mysteriousness. But with the next series a few months off, it looks like I’ll have to settle for this official mobile tie-in.

And to be fair it isn’t actually too terrible. It begins at the same point as the show, with Jack waking up in the aftermath of a plane crash, and from then on has you skipping merrily through a series of Lost’s “greatest hits” - the most memorable scenes and encounters from the first couple of seasons. So you’ll be dodging the Others and the smoke monster, hammering numbers into a computer “to stop the world from ending” and so on.

There’s a pleasing enough variety of gameplay to keep you occupied, with action, platforming and puzzle solving well blended together. For the most part it’s very simple stuff, lacking the sort of mind-bending mystery that makes the show so compelling (although the part where you have to type those fateful numbers into the computer was a little unfair).

All in all this isn’t a bad accompaniment to the show, and die hard fans will enjoy reliving some of its best bits on their Nokia screen. If, on the other hand, you’d rather eat broken glass than watch Lost (we know there are plenty of you out there), there are much better games you can be playing on your mobile.
