In a nutshell…

Arcade classic Asteroids, remade for your mobile.

What’s it good for?

Simple space-rock blasting sessions that’ll have you coming back for “just one more go.”

Judgement time…

If you grew up in the early 1980s you’ll probably be more than familiar with Asteroids, the classic arcade game that had you frantically swivelling a spaceship, blowing huge flying space rocks into smaller flying space rocks and avoiding any debris that flew your way. Well, Krystaloids is essentially an homage to (we won’t say rip off of) Asteroids.

The graphics have been jazzed up a bit, of course, but it feels almost exactly the same to play. Shooting is performed automatically, so the only controls you need to worry about are left and right to rotate the craft and the booster to propel it forwards.

Each level pits you against a gaggle of asteroids, with the idea being to destroy them all to get to the next level. Each time you blast one it splits into two smaller pieces, so you’ll have a fair bit of rock-shooting to do. Luckily you’ve got some help in the form of the collectible power ups which drop out of destroyed asteroids – these upgrade your firepower and make the task easier.

There’s nothing cutting edge about Krystaloids, but that’s not really the point: it’s an old school classic that still feels playable and reasonably fresh, especially on a mobile phone.
