Looking for a backup clicker in case your regular remote goes walkabout? Never fear: your Nokia has the talent to take on the role! Here’s how to make your mobile double up as a remote control…
Step 1 – Download the software
The first thing you need is an application called irRemote S60. Click here to download it, then install it on your phone. It’ll cost you 19.95 euros (around £16), but you can try it free for ten days.
Step 2 – Add your devices
Now open up irRemote from your Nokia’s Applications screen, go to Devices and add the products you want to control. You can choose by device type (TV, DVD, satellite box etc.), then by brand, then by model number. Select your model number if it’s on the list.
Step 3 - Product not there?
If your model number isn’t there, try refreshing the page at the top, as this will download the latest updates from online. You can also try any generic entries under the manufacturer, to see if they work.
Step 4 - Get clicking
You can now select a device in the main irRemote menu and control it using your phone’s buttons. It won’t completely replace most remotes, as some functions will be unavailable, but you’ll be able to switch things on and off, plus change channels and adjust the volume.
