Hot on the heals of a hassle free way to get Google Android up and running on your n810, you can now let Debian loose with just a click or two. It takes a bit of time, but once everything is in place you’ll get access to OpenOffice, Firefox 3, AbiWord and IceVM among others.
Like the Android setup, it’s a fairly pain free process to get everything running. Just make sure you’ve got enough space free and then set it going and be patient while it does its thing - it can take a while to complete.
First you need a spare memory card and you’ll need about 1.3GB of free space to fit everything in. Then grab the easy-deb-chroot file and run it on your N810. Find the Debian Image Installer app in the Extras menu and set it going - about an hour later it should all be ready to go.
It can be a bit on the slow side, apparently, so it depends if that trade off is worth it. You’ll also want to make sure everything is backed up first, just in case something goes wrong along the way.
