The E71 may be a business first phone, but that doesn’t mean that some of its workplace-like features wouldn’t go a miss on other members of the family. Now you can spruce up your Nseries standby screen and get E71-esque email and SMS notifications to help you keep on top of your inbox.

In order to get scrolling pop up alerts whenever a new message comes in, simply stick a copy of S60Ticker on your Nok and away you go. The free version offers all the basic functionality, but if you want to tinker with the settings then you’ll need to stump up for the full version. At just over £5, though, it will hardly break the bank.

Once it’s up and running, when a new message comes in you’ll see it scroll across the display, so you can quickly see if you need to drop everything and reply, or just quietly ignore it until later. The app can also be customised by third parties, so it could be used to display other info as well as just email.
