Joikusoft is creating a version of its JoikuSpot app that turns your Nok into a Wi-Fi hotspot to allow users of the Fon network to share access. Members of Fon allow their own wireless broadband connection to be used for free in exchange for access other members’ Wi-Fi when they’re out and about.

The idea behind the new FonSpot application is to replace Bluetooth, cables or USB dongles to access 3G data on your laptop when you’re out and about. The app will create a secure hotspot and users will have full control over who has access to their connection. Participating Fon members will be able to share their connection with up to five people.

Joiku offers a free light version of its JoikuSpot app which offers basic web access, but for advanced features like VPN or email access you’ll need to pay for JoikuSpot Premium. The FonSpot version is expected to be available later in the summer.
