Nokia has added S60 3rd Edition devices to the list of handsets supported by its location based instant messaging app so you can now talk to your buddies even if they’re running older phones. Not all the location features work at present, but if you just want to have a quick chinwag you’re in luck.
The new version of Nokia Chat will now run on handsets like the N73 or E65 and offers most of the features you’ll find on an S60 3rd Edition FP1 model. You won’t be able to receive location info from your friends, though, so it’s more like a traditional instant message client in that case. If you’ve got a Bluetooth GPS dongle to hand, however, you can still update your location so friends will be able to see where you are.
If you’re running an N73, N93, N80 or E61, you’ll need to make sure you’ve updated to the latest software first before installing the Chat app - you can find more info over at the Beta Labs Chat page. If you’ve already got everything bang up to date then you can install the app directly on your handset by going to http://chat.nokia.com/app and following the instructions.
