Download BBC iPlayer shows to your N96!

Now this is very, very, cool. Nokia and the BBC have just announced that there’ll soon be a very special version of iPlayer for the N96 that not only lets you catch up on your favourite BBC shows, you’ll also be able to download them to watch back later when you’ve got no net access. Transatlantic flights never looked quite so attractive.

It’s an obvious idea and it’s good to see that the BBC is spreading the mobile love fairly between the different platforms out there. It launched an iPhone version at the beginning of the year, although that only supports streaming, not downloading.

There’s no word yet on whether it’ll work on other Nseries Noks, although there’s no obvious reason why not - we’ll just have to wait and see. The app is expected to pop up on the BBC Mobile site sometime around the N96’s official 1st October launch date.

Hi, There is more info about the N96 iPlayer download service on http://linuxcentre.net – get_iplayer software can already get the working 3gp / rtsp stream URLs for any BBC iplayer programme…. Seems to work on N95 and a few other phones too!
