This is definitely one to file in the believe it when you see it bucket, but the latest music related rumour is that Apple is planning on launching an S60 version of iTunes and it’ll be out in January next year. Oh and there are some screenshots floating about too, but they’re probably just pretty fakes.
While an S60 version of iTunes isn’t a bad idea in itself, it’s very not Apple. Yes, there was the Motorola iTunes debacle, but that seems to have been quietly forgotten by everyone involved. Plus Apple would have to license its (not very) Fairplay DRM system and we’re more likely to see an iPhone running S60 than that happening.
The January 2009 release has probably been added to lend extra weight to the story - all Apple heads know that’s when Macworld is, where Apple unveils all its latest toys.
The kicker, however, is that it will also include some revolutionary new software codenamed ‘HypnoBreathe’ that will increase sound quality. This feature isn’t available to other S60 apps and Apple will be using a secret API bought from Nokia to access it. That’s just pushing it a little too far.
