Nokia revealed plans to take Navigation to a whole new level this morning. By soaking up info and data from millions of Nokia GPS devices, Nokia reckons it can create a traffic prediction service unlike anything else ever seen. Not only will the futuristic traffic service tell you where the jams are, it'll tip you off before you even set off on your journey.
Sure, we've seen TomTom HD Traffic, which uses user data to highlight traffic hotspots. Given that the Nok is already shipping shedloads of GPS enabled devices, it won't be long before it has enough GPS devices out there to predict traffic trouble spots easily and quickly. What's more, Nokia's Traffic Works service will plug directly into your calendar and address book. Once your device is subscribed to the service, it'll constantly monitor your travel plans through your diary (and where you're supposed to be through your address book) and tip you off to any troublespots on your route.
It sure is clever stuff, but sadly we won't be seeing it this year. The Traffic Works project was revealed at The Way We Live Next future plans conference in Espoo.
