Ever fancied dictating an email or an SMS rather than have to tap it out laboriously on your keypad? Or picking out a favourite track from your phone's music library simply by speaking out the name of the song and artist? Well, a new deal inked by Nokia and a firm called Nuance Communications could see those very skills come to your handset.
See, Nuance specialises in speech recognition and predictive text technology and the deal will see make this tech available not only to Nokia but to developers working with Nokia.
Neither Nokia nor Nuance has gone into specifics of how the tech will be used, but given that the two companies already partner on predictive text, voice dialing and read-back technologies, it seems likely that there are other, newer and possibly more advanced things in the pipeline. According to Nuance's Michael Thompson, that could mean "dictation - both email and SMS - mobile search, navigation, and mobile music search."
Some interesting innovation there, and hopefully we'll be seeing it on our Nokia mobile very soon.
