It was always going to be a tricky one, given the volume of Irish present under the artists in C, but this is a full challenge so there's only one way to start. With Chopin. I only have one piece of work by Chopin in my collection from the "baby need's lullaby compilation we picked up when we were expecting our first child (it put me and my wife to sleep when we put it one - haven't played it since). Anyway, a search for "Cradle song", for that is the title of my single Chopin ditty, turned up 199 results, none of which seem to be associated with the great man himself. Searching for Chopin turned up little else and a search for both got me no closer. Perhaps it's my piddly knowledge of classical music that's holding me back. Still, I'm scoring this one down.
Chris Rea hasn't been around for a while, but Driving Home For Christmas is the first song on our Christmas playlist. It's also one we'll no doubt listen to at least another 20 times before finishing the 12 hour trip home. It also happens to the only Chris Rea track I own, and I appear to like it so much, I have two copies. Not any longer though. Comes with Music has given me pretty much every Rea album, so I've selected the latest four for download (if I like him that much, I'll snag the rest later). Deltics, Chris Rea, Dancing With Strangers, The Best of Chris Rea and the recommended Driving Home for Christmas are now all in my collection.
Christy Moore: At the Point Live is the only album I have on iTunes, though I have a few more on CD somewhere. No matter, they're all on Comes with Music. Huzzah! Too many to mention them all here, trust though that I'm having the lot. Inlcuding Live at Vicar Street and my own original Live at the Point (which iTunes insists on calling At the Point Live).
The next one is bound to be a challenge. A little known jazz singer who's friends with my cousin and even closer friends with her younger brother (hope neither reads this). Claire Horgan is nowhere to be seen on Comes with Music. Not much of a surprise, really, given that iTunes comes back with only "Did you mean Clark Organ?". That's the only trouble with ripping CDs, I guess. If you ever come across it, The Stolen Child is an excellent album and worth 36.1 minutes of your time, or 41.7MB of your hard drive. Whichever way you look at it.
I quite like Like a Star, but not sure about Put Your Records On. I don't have much else to judge Corinne Bailey Rae on. The Special edition of the first album is available on Comes with Music as is Live In New York. Obviously I'm having both. Just for completeness sake.
No collection is complete without the Corrs. At least not one made up of eclectic Irish artists anyway. 10 albums are up for grabs on Comes with Music, but I'm not that big a fan so I'm just replacing my copy of Talk on Corners.
I know nothing about Counting Crows, either the pastime or the band, but I do appear to possess two EPs. Odd. Still, of the nine on Comes with Music, I'm getting the full version of Films About Ghosts (The best of Counting Crows) which should cover my needs (If I ever get to actually listen to it).
Last in my list of artists starting with C is the Cranberries. Who else? I have only one track, Linger, but the album Everybody Else is Doing it so Why Can't we? is in my garage, and also on Comes with Music. I'll take that and I've also opted for the Comes with Music "Mix me" option, which pulls together a stack of tracks from the same artist. Not bad.
So there you have it, C came up pretty well for Comes with Music with virtually no holes. D is next and contains another possible Comes with Music strangler. Let's see how it fairs.
