Social messaging on your Nok

Imagine being able to send any kind of message - email, instant, Facebook - from a single client on your Nokia. Well, in 2009, that's exactly what's going to happen if Tom Furlong, the man in charge of all things messaging at Nokia, gets his way. Nokia Messaging is going to launch properly in the new year (it's currently available as a private beta - review coming soon) and when it does it'll come with support for a whole host of email and Instant messaging services.

Right now you can play with the email version, which is still in Beta, that'll allow you to run multiple mail accounts through a single client, much like you would with Outlook or Mail. In the new year we can expect IM services to be added and, according to Furlong, further down the line we'll see social messaging support as well, which to us means Facebook and the like.

Initially the service will only be available on select S60 devices, with more being rolled out over time. S40 will join the fray later next year.

Right, we're off to do a bit of downloading from email.nokia.com
